Edinburgh’s Atik nightclub, known for its feature in Trainspotting 2 and hosting legendary bands such as Pink Floyd and The Ramones, is set to be transformed into student accommodation.

After closing its doors in January, plans have been submitted to The City of Edinburgh Council by Silvermills Estates and Land Ltd for its demolition, paving the way for new student accommodation on the iconic West Tollcross site.

The design statement read: “The vision for the site is to respond to the demand for PBSA in the area and deliver a scheme that adds value to the site and the wider area of West Tollcross.

“A nightclub venue that was associated with anti-social behavior is to be replaced with a carefully organised, modern development that delivers a range of uses with a sustainable, well designed approach.”

The proposed redevelopment seeks to replace the nightclub with 145 purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) units. The new structure will feature 95 studios and 50 cluster units spread across three blocks of six, five, and three storeys. Additionally, the ground floor is slated for commercial use, anticipated to house retail spaces, a cafe, and a gym.
