Elderpark Housing supports community football tournament

Elderpark Housing has provided financial support for young footballers at a community football tournament.

The annual “Govan Fair Cup Tournament”, which is organised by the Govan Youth Information Project (GYIP) delivered a football event to young teams from the Govan community and wider areas.

It was held in Ibrox at community pitches close to Ibrox stadium, which is home to Rangers FC.

The awards process took place at Edmiston House, home to the Rangers Club Shop, museum and an event space.

Jonathan Giddings-Reid, Elderpark’s community regeneration officer said: “The Govan Youth Information Project has played a vital role in Govan since 1994 – supporting young people at every turn and the football tournament is a very popular event which has grown in size annually offering fun for local boys and girls.

“We have worked with GYIP for many years and it was extra special that an open top bus parade took place through Govan to mark their success in true winners’ style.”

GYIP intends to provide “empowering and meaningful” youth work to children and young people within Govan.

The winning team for the girls was Craigton Primary School and the boys winning team was boys St Saviour’s Primary.
