EVH executive committee member Nanette Reid has passed away.
Nanette passed away peacefully at Quayside Care Home in Yoker on August 21, a week short of her 92nd birthday.
The grandmother first became involved in social housing issues in the 1990s and represented tenants’ and employee rights in social housing organisations in Scotland.
Nanette was on the EVH board for 16 years from 2003 and was presented with an EVH Long Service Award in 2019.
A few years before this, she was awarded the British Empire Medal for her work in housing.
As well as her hard work on the executive board, and her own board at Linstone Housing Association, Nanette was a wonderful fundraiser for EVH’s CHAS activities, especially at its Annual Conference events, where she and fellow board member Lorna Paterson never failed to raise a smile with their eye-catching fancy-dress outfits and cheery patter.
Nanette’s granddaughter Heather Reid told The Gazette: “My gran was awarded a BEM (British Empire Medal) for her voluntary work for social housing over the years with Linstone Housing Association where she was chair.
“She also wrote regular columns ‘Reid About Johnstone’ and ‘Aunt Nanette’s Children’s Corner’ for the Renfrewshire Gazette during the 1960s/1970s and was also one of the first women to run for council election in Johnstone.
“My gran achieved so much, and she was such a huge personality with hilarious and amazing stories to share.
“I am sure anyone who met her will remember her unforgettable personality.”
Her funeral will take place at 2pm on Tuesday, 9 September at Paisley Woodside Crematorium.
