Home in Scotland ESG report affirms commitment to sustainability and social impact

Home in Scotland has published its first Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report ahead of its first energy efficiency retrofit pilot.

The housing association, which operates across six local authorities in Scotland, believes the report underscores its unwavering commitment to sustainability and prioritising social benefits in its operations.

The report is based on the Sustainability Reporting Standards for Social Housing (SRS). The SRS is a UK-wide voluntary reporting framework, covering 48 criteria across ESG considerations such as affordability, carbon emission and energy efficiency, safety, equality, diversity and inclusion and resident voice.

Of particular note within the report are details of Home in Scotland’s significant development programme and the results of the 10-year regeneration of East Balornock.

A key source of pride for the organisation is its customer involvement programme which sees customers involved across all parts of the business, scrutinising our activity. They are involved in everything from recruitment panels, procurement, deciding on maintenance contracts, and sitting on the board.

Next up on Home in Scotland’s sustainability journey is a pilot project which will take place in Dundee. It will retrofit flatted properties to increase energy efficiency as some of its first steps in meeting upcoming net zero standards. This project highlights a commitment to practical sustainability measures with the aim of reducing environmental impact.

Audrey Simpson, director for Scotland, said: “At Home in Scotland, our heritage is rooted in unwavering social purpose and strong and stable governance.

“We have been laying important foundations to deliver our long-term environmental and sustainability goals for many years now. We’re pleased to share some of the results of that work and commitment in this report.

“We recognise this journey is ongoing. Our forthcoming retrofit pilot is testament to our proactive approach as we strive to make a meaningful impact on both our customers and the environment.”
