Former Osprey chair Mike Scott awarded with MBE
Mike Scott MBE
Osprey Housing board member and former chair Mike Scott has been awarded an MBE in the 2026 New Year Honours, marking a proud moment for one of Aberdeen’s most dedicated champions of social housing, community wellbeing, and fuel poverty action.
The honour recognises a remarkable career spanning public service, health governance, and the not‑for‑profit sector.
Mr Scott devoted a total of 12 years to leading Osprey Housing’s board as chair — first for seven years, then returning for a further five — guiding the organisation through periods of significant change while strengthening its role as a trusted social landlord.
His commitment to community impact extends across a wide range of organisations. Alongside his long‑standing trusteeship with fuel‑poverty charity Scarf, Mr Scott is also a trustee of DPHS (Disabled Persons Housing Service) Aberdeen, reflecting his deep commitment to accessible and inclusive housing. Before joining Osprey, he served on numerous Scottish social enterprise boards, including a term as vice-chair of Aberdeen Heat & Power.
His public service record is equally distinguished. Mr Scott spent eight years on the Grampian Health Board, contributing to regional health strategy and governance. He also dedicated 17 years as a tribunal member within the Scottish private rented sector, helping ensure fairness and accountability for tenants and landlords alike.
Mr Scott stepped down as Osprey chair in 2024, but his influence continues to be felt. Osprey CEO Stacy Angus, one of those who nominated him for the honour, highlighted the extraordinary scale of his contribution.
“It’s estimated Mike has donated more than 20,000 hours to charitable and not‑for‑profit ventures over the last 26 years,” she said.
“He continues to support organisations that are positively contributing to our communities in such a meaningful way, while helping the next generation of board members navigate today’s complexities and challenges.”
She added that his leadership had been invaluable during her early years as CEO. “Mike was a great support after I was appointed in 2021, especially during the sector’s post-Covid challenges.
“He is an exceptional leader — approachable, assured, and always guided by integrity and transparency. But what really stands out about Mike is his absolute humility. He does what he does for the better of others and never looks for credit, and this is why it meant so much to the Osprey team to nominate him for this award and get the recognition he really deserves.”
Before his not‑for‑profit work, Mr Scott spent nearly three decades in local government across Inverness, Angus, and Aberdeen, including almost 25 years as a chief officer in planning, housing, and health and social care. His final public‑sector role was as Aberdeen City Council’s Corporate Director of Community Services.
Reflecting on the honour, Mr Scott said the MBE had come as a “great surprise”.
“I have spent my working life trying to support and help folk with housing, health, and fuel‑poverty issues,” he said. “I’ve tried to do this across the public, private, and voluntary sectors, as well as within energy advice and provision services, and it is fantastic to be recognised for my decades of work on this.”
The award stands as a fitting tribute to a career defined by service, compassion, and unwavering commitment to improving lives across the north‑east.
