Gain a specialised qualification as Chair with Share

What is the role of a Chair? According to several business institutes, the role of the Chair is a variation of “ensuring the board is effective in setting strategy of the organisation”. Sitting behind this rather vague and high-level ideal is many different layers or “hats”.

The Chair must ensure the constitution is adhered to, that meetings are run well and that all Committee/Board colleagues are encouraged and allowed to contribute. They must ensure that senior staff are supported and managed effectively, be able to build relationships across the board and mediate disputes.

All told it is a varied and at times high pressure role. Share’s bespoke ILM endorsed qualification for Chairs is designed to support Chairs in developing all the skills that sit behind these various tasks. The qualification takes place over the course of six evenings and will give Chairs the chance to discuss and reflect on their work and challenges in a supportive environment, all the while giving them the opportunity to grow and develop in various areas of the role.

The qualification will cover topics such as the role and effectiveness of the Chair; the Chair’s role in good governance, leading and managing meetings; building effective relationships with senior staff; dealing with conflict and breaches of the code of conduct.

This comprehensive programme is unique in its’ tailoring to the housing sector, and can bolster your confidence, knowledge, skills and contribute to the overall good governance of your organisation.
