Glasgow City Mission sets Winter Project opening date

Glasgow City Mission is to open its 2025/26 Winter Project on 1 December 2025.

This year, with the full backing of faithful funders and partners, including the Scottish Government, the charity said it will run an Overnight Welcome Centre in a designated hotel in Glasgow city centre, along with a daytime team of Housing Settlement Officers (HSOs) who will move guests out of this accommodation and into a home of their own.

This is a hybrid model of previous Winter Projects that will positively impact hundreds of people who are at risk of sleeping rough or are trapped in unsuitable accommodation.

The Overnight Welcome Centre will be staffed by fully trained members of staff. This will ensure those who present at any time of night will have access to an emergency bed, removing the risk of rough sleeping.

During the day, the HSOs will advocate and problem-solve housing issues for people experiencing homelessness. The HSOs aim to move people stranded in temporary accommodation into settled housing as quickly as possible and free up emergency accommodation for those in need.

Glasgow City Mission said its Winter Project model this year is designed to meet the current needs of people in Glasgow facing homelessness; those at risk of rough sleeping or currently rough sleeping, and around 1,800 who are stuck in temporary accommodation.
