The project, which was funded by the Hillcrest Foundation and overseen by Dundee City Council’s Central Youth team, saw the young people work on a number of ideas for the mural, and present them at a Community Arts Consultation at the Boomerang Centre in Stobswell.

Successfully showcasing their ideas and gaining public feedback at the event, the group, consisting of young people from Morgan Academy, also carried out a consultation outside Clepington Primary School in February.

Having then worked to finalise the mural’s design, the young people, guided by Syke, took to their spray cans to create the colourful artwork, which is sustainability themed and depicts a scene featuring birds, butterflies, grass, bees and mushrooms.

“This exciting project has seen young people come together and liaise with the wider community to produce a stunning public art piece that can be enjoyed by everyone.”

Joy Melville, Hillcrest tenant services manager, and Stobswell Forum member, added: “This community project has seen various groups and members of the community come together and have a say, resulting in a bright and meaningful artwork that the local area can enjoy for many years to come.

“Stobswell has hosted a number of outstanding community art projects over the past few years, and this new mural is yet another gem in the area’s artistic crown.”
