Highly energy efficient homes planned for West Lothian

Whitburn planAffordable housebuilder Springfield Partnerships has submitted plans to build 85 new affordable homes in Whitburn, West Lothian.

The brownfield site, near Dixon Terrace, has lain neglected for a number of years.

Springfield has now applied to West Lothian Council for planning permission to spend £11 million developing the 2.4 hectare site.

The developer has delivered over 1,300 affordable and mid-market rent homes across Scotland since 2002, and has established strong relationships with numerous housing associations and councils.

The Whitburn development is the first that the Scottish family business has built highly energy efficient affordable and social housing in West Lothian. Springfield has teamed up with local housing association, West Lothian Housing Partnership to deliver these properties.

He said: “The development of this land is going to complete the Dixon Terrace streetscape and address the gap site created by the neglected land.

“The plans would provide 85 West Lothian families with new, highly energy efficient homes, in a spacious and attractive development that are cost-effective to run.”

The development will consist of; one and two bedroom cottage flats, four storey two bedroom apartment blocks, and two and three bedroom bungalows, terraced and semi-detached homes. With a mixture of robust insulation and heating from low carbon air source, once approved, the Whitburn homes will meet silver sustainability standards. All this results in reduced running costs for the residents.

Tom added: “We’re particularly excited to work with West Lothian Housing Partnership and we’re confident this project will be the first of many that we will deliver together.”

Plans for the £11m project have been received and a decision is expected to be made in the coming months.
