Hillcrest was named Community Business of the Year at Saturday night’s prestigious The Courier Business Awards 2021 held at the Apex City Quay Hotel in Dundee.

The Dundee-based charity achieved the award for its commitment to supporting the community through local employment, partnership working and social inclusion.

Since its inception as a housing association in 1967, Hillcrest has expanded its offering over time. As well as providing high quality affordable housing, Hillcrest offers support, training, skills and employment opportunities to people and communities throughout Scotland.

Over the past 18 months, Hillcrest secured £438K in funding to support local communities through the pandemic. The funds enabled Hillcrest to scale up its services to help vulnerable people including low income families, people with disabilities, isolated older people and individuals in recovery from substance use.

On collecting the award, Hillcrest’s chief executive Angela Linton said: “We are extremely proud to win the Community Business of the Year award and it’s an honour for our work to be recognised by the judges.

“Our teams worked throughout the pandemic to ensure some of the most vulnerable people in society received help and support. Their dedication, commitment and hard work demonstrated our values and this award is a worthy recognition of that.

“Thanks must also go to our voluntary board members. They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to Hillcrest alongside healthy constructive challenge. Their involvement is pivotal to our ability to achieve such positive outcomes.”

The Courier Business Awards, in association with Henderson Loggie, was founded in 2013 to recognise successful businesses and individuals across Angus, Dundee, Fife and Perthshire.

Hosted by TV presenter Mark Durden-Smith, the eighth annual black tie event featured 20 categories of awards celebrating a range of industries and businesses both large and small.
