Housing Need and Demand Survey launched in Perth & Kinross

The Housing Need and Demand Survey forms an important part of the planning process ensuring that the right number and mix of homes are developed in Perth and Kinross over the short, medium and longer term.

The survey will gather evidence on the number and type of homes required to meet the needs of residents and communities. This includes understanding how many households are living in homes that no longer meet their needs, as well as capturing the views of new, younger, or forming households.

The findings will ensure that future plans for housebuilding are based on robust and accurate information.

This insight will help the council and its partners ensure there is enough land allocated for new homes, appropriate funding housing investment, and that the housebuilder sector has the workforce and skills it needs.

An online survey is open to all Perth & Kinross residents, and more than 800 telephone and face-to-face interviews will be carried out with a random sample of households across the area. The work is being undertaken by professional market research company, Research Resource, and will run until 3 April 2026.

Housing & Social Wellbeing Committee convener, Councillor Tom McEwan, said: “We want a Perth and Kinross where everyone has access to the right type of high-quality housing for them, in the right place.

“This major survey will provide us with valuable data that will help us plan towards that aim. It will give us real-time information on housing need and demand directly from Perth and Kinross residents. This will inform how future housing is developed across the area.
