Jedburgh community project receives welcome boost
Cruden has donated £840 to Get Jed Fed, a community-led initiative in Jedburgh that encourages local residents and schoolchildren to learn how to plant, grow and harvest their own produce.
The contribution, made through Cruden’s Howdenburn development in partnership with Scottish Borders Housing Association (SBHA), will help fund equipment to support the group’s community growing activities.
Get Jed Fed was established by local volunteers to encourage food growing across the town, creating opportunities for people of all ages to get involved while promoting sustainable, locally sourced food and stronger community connections.
The funding forms part of Cruden’s wider community benefit activity linked to the Howdenburn development, which is delivering 70 affordable homes in Jedburgh in partnership with Scottish Borders Housing Association. The development has helped address significant demand for affordable housing in the area, with more than 1,100 applications received for the new homes.
Representatives from Cruden, SBHA, Get Jed Fed, the Rotary Club of Jedburgh and local school pupils recently came together for a cheque presentation marking the donation.
Michael Palethorpe, production & community benefit manager at Cruden, said: “Community benefit is an important part of every development we deliver, and projects such as Get Jed Fed help ensure that investment continues to make a positive impact beyond the homes themselves.
“Get Jed Fed is doing fantastic work to encourage people of all ages to learn more about growing their own food while bringing people together. We’re proud to play a small part in helping the initiative continue its work across Jedburgh.”
Debby Gillett, development manager at Scottish Borders Housing Association, said: “This donation will help support Get Jed Fed which is a fantastic community-led project. We are grateful to Cruden for supporting an initiative that is making a positive difference locally.”
James Wyness at Get Jed Fed added: “We’re grateful to Cruden and SBHA for this donation. Contributions like this make a real difference and will help us continue encouraging people of all ages to get involved in growing their own food.”
