Kris Docherty
Kris Docherty from Home Team (a subsidiary of Govan Housing Group) takes part in our Just a Minute feature.
How did you get started in the housing sector?
I began my career as a blacksmith before deciding to pivot into the housing sector in 2017 when I joined the newly formed Home Team. As part of the wider Govan Housing Group, this role has offered extensive experience from both an RSL perspective and within a contractor environment.
Biggest professional achievement
Playing a part in the mobilisation of the Home Team from its early days in 2017, when a team of just 14 people supported the whole of Govan Housing Association. Today, the organisation has grown to over 50 employees, working with external RSLs and contractors. It has been especially rewarding to see many original team members develop and progress in their careers.
Best advice you received
Since criticism comes regardless of action, act with integrity and do what’s right.
What do you like most about your job?
I grew up in Govan. It’s a real privilege to deliver essential services to my local community. It has also been rewarding to witness the organisation’s growth, expanding into new areas such as Net Zero works and Stock Condition Surveys.
And the least?
Stock audits!
What would you most like to change in housing?
One of the key changes I would like to see in Scottish housing is a greater focus on community-led investment, where profits and resources are reinvested directly back into local areas.
Working within a multi-trade community interest company, I’ve seen the positive impact this approach can have, not just in maintaining homes, but in supporting wider community outcomes. This has also created local employment opportunities, with seven members of staff recruited from the G51 postcode. Expanding this model could help create more sustainable communities while improving housing standards.
Hobbies and interests:
I’m a musician and have a keen interest in Music Production.
Favourite holiday destination:
Portugal
