‘Killie 2 Coast’ fundraising challenge returns for second year
Ayrshire-based charity CHAP is once again gearing up for a challenge as it announces the return of Killie 2 Coast – a fundraising walk from Kilmarnock to Ardrossan.
Last year’s inaugural event brought together staff, trustees, individuals, and workplace teams from across Ayrshire as they took on the challenge in support of CHAP’s vital frontline services. Taking place during one of the warmest days of the year, the participants persevered to complete the 18-mile journey and raise over £2,500 for the charity.
With this year’s K2C walk taking place on Friday 22nd May, CHAP has teamed up with KA Leisure to build on that success and is encouraging more individuals and community groups to take part and help beat the amount previously raised.
Walkers will set off from CentreStage in Kilmarnock at 9am and follow the main pedestrian route to finish at CHAP’s main office in Princes Street, Ardrossan. For those who prefer a shorter walk, they are welcome to join the event at various points along the route – including Dreghorn, Irvine, Kilwinning, Stevenston and Saltcoats - making the event accessible to people of all abilities.
CHAP chief executive Debbie Alexander said: “We were overwhelmed by the response to last year’s Killie 2 Coast walk. It brought people together in such a positive way, and the feedback we received from participants highlighted the benefit to their physical and mental wellbeing.
“We’re delighted to be bringing K2C back for 2026 and would love to see even more individuals and workplace teams get involved. Every step taken helps us to continue providing free support services to people across Ayrshire who are facing difficult challenges with their housing and financial situation.”
For this year’s Killie 2 Coast, CHAP is working alongside KA Leisure, supporting the promotion of the event and encouraging participation as part of a healthy, active lifestyle.
Laura Barrie, head of active communities at KA Leisure, added: “Killie 2 Coast is a fantastic example of how physical activity can bring people together while supporting a meaningful local cause. Walking is one of the most accessible ways to improve both physical and mental wellbeing, and this event offers a great opportunity for individuals and teams to get involved, challenge themselves and enjoy being active in their community.”
All funds raised will directly support CHAP’s work in providing free, independent and confidential advice to individuals and families across Ayrshire facing housing issues, debt and financial hardship.
Registration for the event is free, and participants are encouraged to raise sponsorship to support the charity’s work through their JustGiving campaign page.
