Linthouse celebrates 50th anniversary at Civic Event hosted by Lord Provost of Glasgow

Linthouse Housing Association (LHA) marked a major milestone in its proud history at a special Civic Event held in Glasgow’s historic City Chambers last week.

The event, hosted by the Lord Provost of Glasgow on Wednesday, 16th July 2025, paid tribute to five decades of service and community impact by the Association.

The afternoon brought together a broad representation of the LHA community, including staff, committee members, and Association members, all of whom were welcomed warmly into the grand surroundings of the City Chambers. Guests enjoyed a light buffet and refreshments while taking the opportunity to mingle with city officials and civic dignitaries. The gathering offered a moment of reflection and celebration, highlighting the enduring partnerships between LHA and the city of Glasgow.

One of the afternoon’s highlights was a speech by Bailie Hoy, who extended heartfelt congratulations to everyone involved in LHA’s journey over the past half-century. The speech praised the Association’s many accomplishments, including its award-winning housing development, innovative tenant support programmes, and commitment to meaningful community engagement.

Linthouse CEO, Irene McFarlane, said: “Linthouse Housing Association has not only built homes, but has built community—placing people at the heart of everything we do. Our achievements are a shining example of how housing associations can transform lives and neighbourhoods.”

Committee chair, Paul Phin, added: “Thanks to all the team at LHA for the hard work and dedication over the past 50 years. We also extend our gratitude to Glasgow City Council for their continued support in our shared efforts to strengthen our community and address the housing crisis. Here’s to the next 50 years!”

Founded in 1975, Linthouse Housing Association has grown to become a cornerstone of the Govan and Linthouse communities, championing quality, affordable housing, and fostering inclusive development. The Civic Event was both a recognition of past success and a recommitment to future ambitions.

As the afternoon drew to a close, attendees reflected on LHA’s legacy and looked ahead with optimism to the next chapter. The event stood as a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration, dedication, and a shared vision of better living for all.
