Youngster secures apprenticeship through Whiteinch and Scotstoun partnership

Aidyn with Charlie from Timetra
Thanks to the joint efforts of the DRC Youth Project, Working Rite’s Pathfinder programme, Whiteinch & Scotstoun Housing Association (WSHA) and Timetra, seventeen year old Aidyn – a local resident – has been able to turn his 12-week work placement into a Modern Apprenticeship.
Aidyn joined the Pathfinder Chances programme after a referral from the DRC Youth Project and through the joint work of Working Rite and WSHA’s maintenance partners, he was offered a 12-week placement with Timetra.
Aidyn grabbed the opportunity with both hands and impressed everyone with his commitment. He turned up every day, on time, eager to learn, and committed to the work.
The Timetra team supported him throughout, pairing him with a tradesman who mentored him on site, offered hands-on guidance, and even gifted him his first set of tools. This combination of partnership support and Aidyn’s determination transformed the placement into a launchpad for his future.
Now, Aidyn is set to begin his Modern Apprenticeship in Joinery at Anniesland College. His journey so far is a clear example of how partnership, community support and hard work create real opportunities for young people.
Dougie, Aidyn’s Pathfinder coordinator, said: “This is exactly what partnership working is all about—creating real opportunities and supporting young people to take them.”
Scott Murray from Timetra added: “As a long-standing partner of Whiteinch & Scotstoun Housing Association, Timetra Ltd are delighted to offer Aidyn a place on our Joinery Apprenticeship Scheme, following on from a successful work placement, organised by the local Working Rite team.
“Aidyn’s appointment is part of our ongoing commitment to the Whiteinch & Scotstoun area and will assist us in the delivery of a recently awarded 7-year contract for maintenance and repair of WSHA housing stock. We wish Aidyn all the best for the next 4 years training.”
Robert Clegg, director of property services at WSHA, said: “As part of the Association’s recent long term contract awards to our various repairs, voids and cyclical works contractors, there was a great emphasis placed within each contract for the successful bidders to engage and provide community benefits within the local area.
“I’m delighted to see that in conjunction with the Working Rite Team, Timetra Ltd have taken up this challenge with Aidyn’s appointment to his Modern Apprenticeship in Joinery and I wish Aidyn all the best for the future in his chosen trade.”
