Bishopton families have praised the life-changing impact of their “beautiful and spacious” homes within a new affordable housing development.

The new homes at Dargavel include a mix of 58 one, two and three-bedroom houses and cottage flats, all for social rent.

Loretto Housing Association, part of Wheatley Group, contributed £3.9 million to the development.

Coralie Robertson, who moved into her one-bedroom cottage flat in December, said: “I feel like I’ve won the lottery. Coming home I get excited because I open the front door and I just can’t believe it’s mine. It’s beautiful and so spacious.

“The area is lovely and I feel so safe here, I can go out for a walk whenever I like.”

Donna Lovatt, who stays with her son and daughter in a three-bedroom, mid-terraced house, added: “I love how much space we have. I used to live in a two-bedroom private let and it was like a dolls house – we were so overcrowded.

“The kitchen, living room and bathroom are so much bigger now, and we have storage space, which we didn’t have before. The wee one is so thankful to have her own room.”

The high-quality, energy efficient homes at Dargavel were built by Robertson Partnership Homes with the help of a £4.6 million grant from the Scottish Government.

Chair of Loretto, Eric Gibson, commented: “We’re delighted to hear how well tenants are settling into their new homes and we hope they continue to enjoy them for years to come.

“To help tackle the need for social housing, we’ve made a commitment to build 500 energy efficient homes over the next five years that meet a range of housing needs. This development is part of this commitment to our communities.

Loretto is currently on-site building 24 properties at Main Street in Maddiston, Falkirk and 36 homes for social rent were recently completed in Helensburgh.
