New Mears Group maintenance contract commences in Govanhill

Govanhill Housing Association has welcomed the commencement of its contract with Mears Group, which started today.
Mears Group will continue as the repairs and maintenance contractor for Govanhill Housing Association, which owns and factors approximately 3,000 properties in Govanhill and Merrylee.
The contract covers a wide range of services, including reactive repairs, voids, medical adaptations, and facilities - such as painting, and small-scale improvement works, including lighting in communal areas.
The association said it is looking forward to continuing to work with Mears, which will offer an impressive community benefit scheme secured as part of the contract. This includes at least two apprenticeships for people in the Govanhill area, every year for the duration of the contract. This means at a minimum; ten young people will receive on the job training and employment as a direct result of this contract.
Ryan Mallin (20) is in his third year of his electrician apprenticeship with Mears and has been working in Govanhill. Ryan said: “This apprenticeship has been a valuable opportunity; I have learned so much in the last three years.”
Previously, Mears has demonstrated its commitment to the Govanhill community by installing both external and internal bicycle storage free of charge, alongside regular contributions to the community garden, and Govanhill Housing Association events.
Keith Kintrea, chair of Govanhill Housing Association and local resident, added: “Securing additional benefits for the community is an important part of any contract negotiation, and we were very pleased with the social benefits offered by Mears Group. Their commitment to supporting local young people into trades through this contract is in line with our mission to provide more than just housing, and potentially life-changing for the young people involved.”
Paul Timmons, head of operations, repairs & maintenance, Mears Group, said: “We are delighted to continue our long-standing partnership with Govanhill Housing Association, which reflects our dedication to delivering high-quality services that benefit both the residents and the community.
“We look forward to working closely with Govanhill Housing Association to ensure that the properties under our care are well-maintained and our work continues to meet the high standards that everyone can be proud of.”
