Melville brings anniversary celebrations to a close with final donation
Melville Housing Association has brought its 30th anniversary celebrations to a close by completing its ‘30 Donations for 30 Years’ campaign - marking the milestone with a final contribution to a thoroughly deserving grassroots group committed to keeping their local community tidy.
The 30th and final donation has been awarded to Danderhall Guerrilla Gardeners, recognising the group’s efforts to enhance local spaces and bring residents together through hands-on environmental action.
The group received £345, following a nomination from Melville colleague Megan Barclay, who was born and raised in Danderhall. The donation was presented to group founder Helen Graham during a visit from Melville Housing representatives as part of the organisation’s year-long programme of community support.
Danderhall Guerrilla Gardeners play a key role in maintaining and improving the local environment. The group also founded and supports the ‘Wombles’ litter-picking initiative, led by local volunteers including Hazel King and Pat Gibson, who have helped drive participation across the village. Through regular events and ongoing efforts, the Wombles have encouraged residents of all ages to take pride in their surroundings and contribute to keeping the area clean and well cared for.
As well as helping fund the work of the Wombles, allowing them to buy equipment for their continued activities, Melville’s donation will also be used to help engage younger members of the community in environmental activities, including pupils from Danderhall Primary School.
John McMorrow, chief executive of Melville Housing, said: “This campaign has been about celebrating the people and groups who make our communities stronger. Danderhall Guerrilla Gardeners are a great example of that in action, bringing people together and making a real difference locally. We’re proud to support them and delighted to have them as the 30th and final community group in our 30th anniversary celebrations.”
Reinforcing its long-standing commitment to community investment and support, the ‘30 Donations for 30 Years’ campaign has seen Melville provide funding to a diverse range of local initiatives from sports clubs, music groups and animal rescue shelters, to those tackling food insecurity and helping out during the cost-of-living crisis.
