Memories made at Castlemilk’s food and fun summer programme

Cassiltoun Housing Association welcomed almost 300 children through the doors, including their families, for the ‘Castlemilk Together: Food and Fun Project’ during the School Holidays, funded by Glasgow City Council’s Holiday Programme.

This project is a partnership project through Castlemilk Together, which consists of Cassiltoun Housing Association, Ardenglen Housing Association, Indigo Childcare Group, Castlemilk Youth Complex, Thenue Housing Association and Castlemilk Community Football Trust. The project started as a combined partnership with local organisations, with the aspiration that any child in Castlemilk could attend one of the six organisations for free food and fun, on various days of the school holidays.

Cassiltoun Housing Association had five sessions with a free lunch, lots of fruit and lots of fun activities. It welcomed Glasgow Life for outdoor sports and games, NHS dental nurses, Glasgow Science Centre, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, WILD (Woodland Inspired Learning and Development), Castlemilk Youth Complex (Youth Stress Team) and Glasgow South Carers Centre.

Every day was filled with fun activities and delicious food and fruit. Cassiltoun received amazing feedback from all the families that joined in. When asked what their favourite thing about “Food and Fun”  was, the following feedback was received:

    • “Making memories” – Age 10
    • “The strawberries are the BEST ever! The soup is good too!” – Age 7
    • “I love how happy it made my wee one, there is so much for them to do and we really appreciate it, it means a lot”-  A local parent
    • “There are so many activities to keep the kids busy during the holidays and its really nice to meet other families and get to know new people” –  A local parent.

A huge thanks was extended to all the partners for making the project happen.
