Staff from the Baltic Street Food Hub and Molendinar Park staff with the much-needed donations

In the spirit of Christmas, instead of giving each other Christmas Cards or partaking in a Secret Santa this year, staff at Molendinar Park Housing Association (MPHA) decided to collect food parcels for the Baltic Street Food Hub in Dalmarnock.

The parcels included everyday essentials, such as canned food, pasta, rice etc. along with a selection of tasty seasonal treats.

Staff hope these contributions will bring some cheer to local residents affected by the cost of living crisis, especially at this time of year.

The Common Room at Drakemire Sheltered Housing Complex ready to welcome the residents for their Christmas lunch

MPHA staff also donned their aprons to cook a Christmas lunch for around 25 of their elderly residents in Drakemire a Sheltered Housing Complex of 29 flats in Castlemilk.

Julie Smillie, director, said: “It’s lovely to bring this long-held tradition back this year after being unable to hold it over the pandemic. Combatting loneliness and isolation is a priority at Molendinar Park HA so little traditions like this Christmas get-together in the Common room are really important to us. Our amazing warden Olivia Rooney works and lives in the complex and works tirelessly all year to go that extra mile for our residents.”

The residents were treated to a home-cooked 3 course Christmas lunch and rounded off with entertainment from a local singer.
