Muirhouse Housing Association helped serve up a sizzler of summer fun for the local community in Edinburgh last weekend.

The association was one of the participating organisations which supported the North Edinburgh Community Festival event held on Saturday. It has been growing in popularity each year and attracted a large crowd of families keen to experience a range of fun activities and feel a sense of community which was central to the event.

Fortunately, the weather was kind with a burst of early summer sunshine helping to encourage people to attend from across North Edinburgh.

The Muirhouse stall was a huge draw among families with young children as it offered kids the opportunity - appropriately for a housing association - to build a home using colourful giant play bricks. They could also show their artistic skills colouring in a large cardboard house structure which captivated young children on the day.

Muirhouse Housing Association – as part on its ongoing commitment to supporting its North Edinburgh neighbourhood - said it was proud to be part of such an event which undoubtedly brought people together.

Muirhouse Housing Association chief executive, Susan Bell, who represented Muirhouse along with colleagues Steph Sedstrem, Kathleen McLoughlin and Lisa Bee, said: “As a local organisation participating in these events offers the opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to the wider local community. It also allows our staff to meet with residents of North Edinburgh in a less formal setting.”

“Judging by the size of the crowd and the good spirits they were in, it certainly was a wonderful occasion to bring people together and celebrate our vibrant community.”

The association contributed funding to ensure the Festival was a success and provided further financial support to the traditional “parade” which kicked off proceedings.

This parade, featuring a motorised float, began its journey at the “LIFT Millennium Centre” – near neighbours of Muirhouse Housing Association and with whom it enjoys a close working relationship in their joint endeavour to help Muirhouse thrive.

LIFT stands for Low Income Families Together and has a pivotal role in delivering community cohesion in Muirhouse.
