Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership (DGHP) has named Robert Higgins from Stranraer as its chairman and Bill Robertson from New Abbey as vice chairman.

Mr Higgins, an independent member, has been vice-chairman of DGHP for the last three years. This will be the first year that Mr Robertson, a DGHP tenant, has been vice-chairman.

Speaking after he was appointed, Mr Higgins said: “Being vice chairman, and working closely with the past chairman David McMillan, has been a real help in taking up the post.

“I am looking forward to ensuring, as an organisation, that we continue to secure future development and affordable housing for our region.

“Not only does this improve energy efficiency, it ensures that our tenants’ homes are more cost effective to heat meaning more pounds in our tenants’ pockets. However, it’s also about balancing this with our rents.

“It’s important we remain focused on continuing to invest in our tenant’s homes through our various improvements programmes, such as roofing and heating.

“We know there are some challenging financial times ahead with the roll-out of Universal Credit coming our way and we will continue to do whatever we can to support our tenants. We have dedicated staff on-hand to be able to support our tenants through the challenges they face.”
