North Ayrshire Council seeks views on Homelessness Prevention Strategy
North Ayrshire Council has launched a public consultation to shape its upcoming Homelessness Prevention Strategy, inviting residents, partners, and stakeholders to share their vital feedback.
The ambitious new strategy will be built around a vision to ensure everyone in North Ayrshire lives in the right home, in a great place, with easy access to any support services they need.
To achieve this, the council’s Homelessness Task Force is looking to introduce a new model, which focuses on support and prevention, including an early triage system to help people before they reach a crisis point, while also protecting the wellbeing of frontline staff.
The strategy focuses on four key priorities:
- Preventing homelessness early: Stopping homelessness before it starts through strong partnerships, early help, and reducing the number of children in temporary housing.
- Minimising the impact: Reducing the time people spend experiencing homelessness, continuing the “Housing First” delivery, and maximising stability.
- Preventing repeat homelessness: Providing consistent, long-term support to help people keep their tenancies and improve their overall wellbeing.
- Strong monitoring and governance: Ensuring effective leadership, shared data, and accountability across all community partners.
To help inform the Homelessness Prevention Strategy, feedback from North Ayrshire residents is essential to ensure the final plan is practical and effective.
Councillor Alan Hill, cabinet member for communities, housing and islands, said: “We would encourage as many people as possible to participate in the consultation. We want to be proactive in reducing homelessness in North Ayrshire and ensure we have strong early-intervention measures in place to help minimise the chances of people becoming homeless.”
The consultation is open until 30 June 2026 and local residents, housing advocates, and community organisations are strongly encouraged to view the proposals and submit their views.
You can take part in the consultation online.
