North Ayrshire Council tenants asked to share views on rent levels
North Ayrshire Council house tenants are being urged to have their say on proposed rent levels for next year with options ranging from 3.84% to 4.84%
Consultation is now open and gathering views on potential rent changes, due to come into effect in April 2026.
Councillor Alan Hill, cabinet member for Communities, Housing and Islands, said: The level of rent increase directly affects the income we have available to spend on managing, maintaining and investing in our housing stock. We have ambitious plans to improve the quality of our tenants’ homes but we also know households across North Ayrshire continue to feel pressure from rising costs.
“We have identified a series of efficiency measures to ensure any proposed rent increase is minimised while protecting investment in maintenance, energy efficiency projects, refurbishment and new-build Council housing. It’s important that our tenants give us their thoughts before any decision is taken early next year.
Two rent increase options have been developed and both options include investment in priority areas such as home improvements, investment in sheltered housing units, building new homes and buying back former council houses.
Option one would see an average rise of 3.84% to maintain current investment levels, while option two would see an average rise of 4.84% which would enable additional expenditure of £7.5 million to expand the council’s estate-based regeneration programme.
Tenants can take part in the consultation online until Friday, 16 January 2026.
