Paisley Housing Association’s Flair Conference hailed as success

The latest Flair Conference, hosted by Paisley Housing Association, brought together registered social landlords from across the Flair partnership – Linstone, Bridgewater, Barrhead, Williamsburgh and Ferguslie Park Housing Associations – for a highly successful and inspiring event.
The morning programme was filled with insight and engagement, beginning with a powerful presentation from David Bookbinder, director of the Glasgow and West of Scotland Forum of Housing Associations.
David Bookbinder outlined six major challenges currently facing community-based housing associations, highlighting the need to prioritise these issues in sector-wide conversations while acknowledging that many more challenges remain.
A series of well-attended and workshops followed, including:
- Right Way Credit Union – Paula Dinnet emphasised the essential role of ethical finance in supporting tenants
- Why Culture is Your Secret Weapon in the Housing Crisis – Kirsty Innes explored how strong organisational values can drive positive outcomes in challenging times
- Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) – Susie Fitton and Tom Ockendon delivered a detailed update on the proposed Housing Bill and its implications for housing associations
- Motor Neuron Disease (MND) Awareness – led by Linda Reid and Gabrielle King, MND Scotland’s Policy Lead, providing valuable insight into the disease and the importance of inclusive housing support
The event concluded with a heartfelt farewell from Margaret Symons, a committee member and previous chair of Williamsburgh Housing Association, who is stepping down after more than 19 years of dedicated service. Margaret thanked everyone for their passion and care for the local communities, recognising the vital, life-changing work being carried out across the Flair network.

Fiona McTaggart, CEO of Paisley Housing Association, added: “The Flair group is a fantastic example of partnership working that benefits the communities of East Renfrewshire and Renfrewshire. The event was a great opportunity for community-based housing associations to come together to learn and share.”
Jonathan Grant, CEO of Williamsburgh Housing, said: “On behalf of everyone at Williamsburgh, I would like to thank Margaret for her steadfast commitment over the years. Her support and service to our residents and staff has been greatly appreciated. Margaret will be missed enormously, and we wish her well for the future.”
Lorna Wilson, CEO of Barrhead Housing Association, commented: “The Flair Conference was a powerful reminder of what is possible when organisations come together to share, learn and inspire. The energy and ideas exchanged will stay with us for a long time.
Andy Thomson, CEO of Bridgewater Housing, added: “Events like this are crucial for fostering innovation and ensuring we continue to deliver the best possible support to our communities”.
