Persimmon Homes has donated over 3,000 tiles to South Lanarkshire College to support the next generation of construction workers.

The housebuilder made the donation at the college’s East Kilbride Campus. Persimmon’s regional apprentice manager, Ian MacPherson joined construction curriculum lead, Fraser Waugh, at the college to present the materials.

The donation of tiles will support construction students studying in South Lanarkshire College’s East Kilbride Campus. The materials will support the college in allowing students more time on the tools whilst at college to complete skills tests and create models in the classroom.

South Lanarkshire College, which has over 2300 construction students across many construction courses, attracts students from across central Scotland. The South Lanarkshire College campus is home to 5000 students and around 400 staff. It is situated in the centre of East Kilbride, just seven miles from the centre of Glasgow.

The College offers around 150 courses to students in a multitude of curriculum areas, including travel and tourism, accounting, plumbing and gas, construction management, hairdressing, health and social care, childcare, and much more. South Lanarkshire College staff are award-winning, experienced in their field, and specialists in their industry.

The housebuilder, which creates more than 1,500 new energy efficient homes across Scotland each year, makes its own tiles at its factory in England which is used on developments across the country.

Fraser Waugh, South Lanarkshire College wet trades curriculum manager, said: “Everyone at South Lanarkshire College was thrilled to receive the generous donation of tiles from Persimmon; we really appreciate the ongoing support from our long-term partner. Through this donation of 3000 tiles, our roof, slating, and tiling students will be able to practise their work, hone their skills, and complete their course. The donation will make a huge difference to the classroom, and we are extremely grateful for the gift.”

Ian MacPherson, Persimmon’s regional apprentice manager, said: “I’m delighted we’re able to donate these much needed materials and support the fantastic work South Lanarkshire College does to develop the future leaders of the construction industry.

“Persimmon are committed to creating exciting opportunities for everyone in the areas where we operate and this donation is just one example of that.”
