Perth and Kinross seeks views on five-year Local Housing Strategy

The consultation runs until September 9

Local people, community organisations and housing partners are being encouraged to give their views on what housing and local communities should look and feel like in Perth and Kinross over the next five years.

The council is in the process of updating its Local Housing Strategy (LHS) for 2022-27. The LHS sets out a plan of action, investment and partnership working which will deliver on identified local housing priorities.

Following initial consultation last year with stakeholders on how the new LHS should look, the council and its community partners have now developed a draft LHS vision and priorities for action.

The four LHS priorities identified are:

  • Providing more homes at the heart of great places
  • Providing a range of housing options that people can easily access, afford and keep
  • Delivering housing for people with varying needs
  • Delivering quality homes with affordable warmth, zero emissions and using internet-enabled household technology

A final consultation has now been launched on the new LHS which seeks views on the council’s draft vision, priorities and actions.

Housing and Social Wellbeing convener, Councillor Tom McEwan, said: “The LHS is an ambitious plan, setting out what homes and communities should look and feel like in Perth & Kinross over the next five years. This vision includes delivering more homes, creating great places, providing better housing choices and delivering homes which are affordable, energy efficient and meet the individual needs of each household.

“Before the strategy for 2022-27 is finalised we want to make sure that local people, communities and stakeholders have their say on whether they think our priorities will make a positive difference to meeting housing need in Perth & Kinross.

“We will consult a wide range of stakeholders to get a variety of different views, and we would like as much input as possible from local people and interested parties.

“Everyone can take part in the process by completing the short consultation questionnaire, and I would encourage people to make their views known. All comments we receive will be considered, and will feed into the final version of the LHS which will cover the next five years.”

Following the consultation, which ends on September 9, the feedback will be used to finalise the Local Housing Strategy which will be submitted for formal approval by Perth & Kinross Council in November 2022.
