Plans approved for four new homes on Islay

A proposal to build four new homes near Bridgend on Islay has been approved by Argyll and Bute Council.

The application, lodged by Donald Baker, covers land to the southeast of Neriby Cottage and includes the creation of new vehicle access. No public objections were submitted during the planning process.

In a report, planning officers described the site as a rectangular plot north of Glen Road, with ground that rises gently from the roadside. The area has already been cleared of scrub, and two access points—each crossing a culvert—connect the plot to the road. A dry‑stone wall forms the front boundary.

Officers concluded that the development would sit comfortably within the existing pattern of dispersed housing in the area and that a formal landscape and visual assessment was not required.

The homes will be positioned on a slight south‑facing slope and set back from the public road. Amended drawings were submitted during the process, including larger bedroom windows on one house type and minor internal layout changes. Planners said the revisions were not significant enough to require further neighbour notification, noting that the updated plans had been publicly available since 28 August.

The report added that the simple design and finishes proposed would avoid any significant visual impact on the wider landscape. No consultees raised concerns about the infrastructure required to support the development.
