Plans submitted for new care home in Livingston

Proposals to transform a former nightclub in Livingston into a new care home have been submitted by developer and housing provider, Morrison Community Care.

‘Club Earth’, located on Howden South Road in Almondside, closed in 2017 and has lay vacant ever since. The new development seeks to reinvigorate the site by providing private residential, nursing, and dementia care services for up to 66 residents contained within a contemporary-styled building that is also complemented by high-quality, landscaped grounds.

Morrison Community Care have established themselves as a premium care provider for the elderly in the UK and have a sustained development programme in Scotland working in partnership with the Glasgow-based contractor CCG (Scotland) and architects, Holmes Miller. Together, over 100 beds were created in 2021 and a further 68 are under construction in Fife with each care home imaginatively designed, richly furnished, and complete with a wide range of integrated amenities.

This latest development, ‘Almondside Luxury Suites’, continuing this trend with future residents set to benefit from private dining facilities supported by professionally-trained chefs, a cinema, hairdressing salon, private en-suite bedrooms, and outdoor, recreational space.

Expert nursing staff would also be available 24/7 and employed as part of a locally-based recruitment drive that could see up to 150 jobs created across a wide variety of roles and disciplines.

Paul Sokhi, Morrison Community Care managing director, said: “Morrison Community Care are delighted to have the opportunity to bring our sector-leading expertise to Livingston with Almondside Luxury Suites. Like many communities across Scotland, there is a shortfall of specialist accommodation that caters to the needs of the elderly but as a result of our collaboration with CCG and Holmes Miller, we are catering to this demand by delivering a sustained programme of developments as well as creating a standard of living (and service) that is meticulously designed to meet the needs of every resident.

“We hope that by addressing local demand for specialist care accommodation and through the creation of up to 150 jobs, the proposals are accepted by West Lothian Council which will allow us to proceed to a formal construction start in 2023.”

David Wylie, CCG (Scotland) managing director, added: “Morrison Community Care and CCG have a proven track record of delivery across the breadth of the country. We utilise our combined expertise to deliver a standard of accommodation that is sector-leading in Scotland; integrating innovative solutions and technologies with advanced building methods to ensure quality and comfort at every level.

“CCG are proudly delivering 58 affordable homes in Livingston on behalf of the Council and we now hope to support the community further with this great development.”
