Twelve rising stars at Berwickshire Housing Association (BHA) have completed an initiative which aims to help them achieve their full potential.

Developed by Silverback Coaching, the innovative ‘Releasing Potential’ programme of six workshops designed to enhance goal setting, defeat overwhelm, overcome procrastination and boost productivity.

John Bain, head of HR at BHA, said: “We wanted to make a genuine investment in our staff team on a personal level, and at the same time achieve greater productivity and effectiveness for the organisation. We are delighted that this programme has achieved just that. This was a very successful pilot and we now hope to be able to release the potential of our other rising stars in the future.

“Releasing Potential has been running over the past six months, although the impact of the programme could be seen from day one. A range of practical tools and techniques have been implemented by staff, and the programme finished with a sustainability plan so that the impacts continue to be seen over the long term.

“Scottish Enterprise have been a big supporter of the programme, both with funding and by providing us with a venue. We would like to thank them once again for their support.”

Sheila Charters, workplace innovation specialist, Scottish Enterprise, said: “The difference to the candidates was nearly tangible - the growth in their demeanour and confidence was evident from the moment I entered their final session. Talking to the individuals showed their aptitude to change the culture within the organisation, and their awareness of everyone’s potential was palpable.

“BHA should be commended for looking so far ahead, and nurturing tomorrow’s managers now. The trainers Dave and April had obviously engaged with the group to develop trust and had a fantastic rapport with all of the candidates.”

The Releasing Potential programme was developed by Dave Jarrold of Silverback Coaching, who added: “I gained over 20 years’ experience in the housing sector before building my coaching and training business. We know what works and what makes a genuine and practical difference to the way people work.

“I also know the sector and the specific challenges that are being faced on a daily basis. Although this programme works for any organisation I am particularly driven to make an impact in the housing sector. Working with BHA has been an absolute pleasure and we have exceeded our own high expectations in terms of impact and outcomes. I would be delighted to talk to any housing organisation wishing to achieve similar outcomes.”
