£2m energy efficiency funding announced for Shetland

More people in Shetland could benefit from warmer homes and lower bills, thanks to increased funding from the Scottish Government.
Shetland Islands Council has welcomed £2 million in funding through the Scottish Government’s Heat and Energy Efficient Scotland: Area Based Scheme (HEES: ABS) programme for 2026-27.
The funding is set to support more than 150 households across Shetland, with around 200 energy efficiency measures installed to help make homes warmer, more energy efficient, and more affordable to heat.
Delivery of the programme is managed by Warmworks on behalf of Shetland Islands Council. Warmworks has been working in Shetland since 2015, delivering the Scottish Government’s national fuel poverty scheme, Warmer Homes Scotland, and was appointed as the Council’s delivery partner for the HEES: ABS in 2025.
Warmworks also has an office in Lerwick and works with local companies to install improvements for eligible households.
Carl Symons, Shetland Islands Council’s executive manager for Environment and Estate Operations, said: “This funding will help people across Shetland access things like better insulation, solar panels, and heat pump systems. It is an increase from about £1.15m in 2025/26 and will make a real difference to people’s homes.”
Nicola Mcleod, Warmworks’ managing director for Scotland, said: “This £2m investment will help more households across Shetland reduce their energy costs and enjoy warmer homes. At a time when many people remain concerned about heating bills, this support will make a real difference to communities.
“We remain committed to helping people live in warmer, healthier, and more affordable homes. I would strongly encourage anyone interested in finding out more about how to make their home warmer and more energy efficient to get in touch with the local team, whether that be giving them a call or visiting our Lerwick office.”
