£500,000 more support for Scottish households this winter
The British Gas Energy Trust has announced an additional £500,000 to support Scottish households this winter.
The extra investment will provide targeted support to those struggling with the cost of living and energy affordability.
The additional funding will be distributed across three key areas:
- £250,000 for a brand new White Goods Scheme available across mainland Scotland
- £150,000 for emergency energy vouchers
- £100,000 additional funding for Scottish money and energy advice projects on the Supporting Communities At Risk Programme (SCARP)
The White Goods scheme opened on 3 November 2025 and is expected to run until 27 February 2026. It complements the scheme already run by the Trust across England and Wales and is predicted to supply essential household appliances to an estimated 715 Scottish households.
Applications can be made through the Trust’s funded organisations across mainland Scotland, its outreach partners, or British Gas colleagues, and eligible applicants can receive items such as washing machines, under-counter fridges and freezers and electric cookers.
Alongside the White Goods programme, the Trust is also boosting direct financial support for Scottish households. An additional £150,000 has been allocated to provide financial assistance payments and emergency energy vouchers for those struggling to cover essential costs.
A further £100,000 will be used to bolster a select number of SCARP projects in Scotland. Through SCARP, the Trust provides grants to charities and social enterprises across Britain, enabling them to deliver free and impartial money and energy advice to their local communities. This funding will extend the capacity of advisors working on the selected projects, aiding them in delivering rapid support to individuals and families facing acute financial challenges and fuel poverty.
“We recognise that many households in Scotland continue to face significant financial pressures in the colder months. By providing extra funding, we’re helping households stay safe, warm, and supported.” Tracey Talbot, interim CEO of the Trust, said.
“The White Goods Scheme and emergency energy vouchers ensure families and individuals have access to essential appliances and support with their bills when they need them most, and the additional SCARP funding will mean more can access holistic support this winter, helping them towards financial stability.”
