Public Art: Kingdom Housing Association

‘Petals in Metal’

Station Road, Cairneyhill – Kingdom Housing Association – completed August 2011

unnamed (5)Susheila Jamieson & James Gordon were appointed to produce a feature artwork with links to the weaving and rose history of Cairneyhill while working with Cairneyhill Primary School.

The themes for the artwork were suggested by the Community Council.

The artwork is 5 Corten Steel panels with rose flower patterns cut out with high power water jets. The outlines represent the damask linen which was previously woven in Cairneyhill.

Carved oak pillars inscribed with names of locally produced roses are at either end of the artwork. The school took part in designing the flower cut outs, assisted in carving the wooden posts, selected the final design and came up with the name – Petals in Metal.
