Rachael Williamson appointed director of policy, communications and external affairs at CIH

The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) has appointed Rachael Williamson as director of policy, communications and external affairs, following her successful tenure in the role on an interim basis since November 2024.
Ms Williamson joined CIH in 2021 as head of policy and external affairs and has played a key role in shaping CIH’s influencing strategy, strengthening its public profile, and deepening member and stakeholder engagement. This has included leading CIH’s recent engagement on the 2024 general election, their advocacy for the 2025 Spending Review and the successful launch of the 2025 UK Housing Review.
Commenting on her appointment, Rachael Williamson said: “I’m honoured to take on this role permanently and continue working with an exceptional team and dedicated colleagues across the sector. CIH’s mission – to support housing professionals to create a future in which everyone has a place to call home – is one I’m deeply passionate about. At a time of both challenge and opportunity for housing, I’m excited to help drive forward our policy, communications and engagement work to influence the decisions that shape our sector and champion the vital role of the housing profession.”

Ms Williamson will continue to lead CIH’s UK-wide policy, external affairs and communications activity, ensuring the Institute remains a trusted voice in housing and a strong advocate for members across the sector.
