Refugee World Cup tournament concludes in Glasgow
At the Toryglen Regional Football Centre in Glasgow, Scotland, the Refugee World Cup took place on 21 June 2026. The tournament united teams of refugees, asylum seekers, migrants and local players from more than 50 nations to bring together football and a sense of community.
Organised by Glasgow Afghan United and supported by Wheatley and Glasgow Life, the seven-a-side tournament was formally inaugurated by Simita Kumar, Scottish government minister for equalities and international development.
The World Cup was picked up by Glasgow Afghan United and Wheatley’s team picked up third place. Over 250 players were present at the event.
