The Midlothian village of Rosewell will soon benefit from 100 new homes as David Wilson Homes confirmed the purchase of 12.6 acres of land from Banks Property on behalf of the landowners.

Work will soon commence on David Wilson Homes, part of Barratt Developments plc, at Rosewell Meadow, with the new community comprising 75 four-bedroom private homes and 25 affordable homes.

As part of the homebuilder’s commitment to creating dedicated spaces for local biodiversity conservation, the development will include a new, informal green space as well as connecting to local cycle routes for residents to enjoy. Work is expected to begin in June and will bring up to 90 new jobs to the region during the construction phase.

Mansoor Ali, regional development director at Barratt Developments, said: “We’re really pleased to have finalised our purchase of the land at Rosewell. This marks David Wilson Homes’ second investment in the region in recent months as we seek to develop a fantastic range of family housing in an attractive and popular location. We are looking forward to starting construction work and providing an opportunity for people to put down roots in a vibrant, growing community.”

The development is part of Midlothian Council’s Local Development Plan – its vision for the future delivery of housing. With the Scottish Government estimating that 435,000 new homes are needed by 2035 to cope with expected housing demand, David Wilson Homes’ investments at Rosewell Meadow and its nearby St Clair Mews site highlight the homebuilder’s continued commitment to building homes in places people want to live.

David Wilson Homes has also vowed to cut its indirect carbon emissions (those coming from its homes and from its supply chain) by 24% per square metre by 2030 by building lower carbon homes and using more sustainable materials. The homes themselves will be energy efficient and built to a minimum EPC rating of B or above.

We held meetings, a public exhibition and completed door-to-door surveys in the village to communicate our plans with local people and to give them an opportunity to feedback their views and ideas.”
