Warmworks’ chief executive Ross Armstrong has been appointed as a member of the Committee on Fuel Poverty.

The Committee, sponsored by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, provides expert advice to the UK Government on the delivery of its strategy to reduce fuel poverty in England. It also encourages coordination across organisations and sectors supporting people in, or at risk of, fuel poverty.

Warmworks was set up in 2015 and delivers the Scottish Government’s Warmer Homes Scotland programme, directly impacting households to help lift them out of fuel poverty.

Its work delivering large scale energy efficiency programmes now spans Great Britain, with contracts in Shetland, Wales and West Yorkshire all working to improve housing stock and reduce household energy costs.

Ross, who announced his three-year appointment at the end of February, said: “I look forward to advising the UK Government on the delivery of its fuel poverty strategy.

“The appointment comes at a crucial time for the sector, with the UK Government having announced both its £15bn Warm Homes Plan and its updated fuel poverty strategy in recent weeks.

“With so much potential for positive change ahead of us, it’s vital that policy goals can now begin to translate into meaningful, scalable delivery for the millions of homes and families across the country who are still struggling to stay affordably warm at home.”
