Rutherglen and Cambuslang Housing Association has teamed up with Healthy n Happy Community Development Trust to launch a campaign encouraging local residents to donate presents for children in need.

The Give a Gift of Joy appeal asks community members to purchase an extra gift while shopping and donate it to the campaign. Gifts should be suitable for children aged 0–16 years, with a value of £5–£10. Suggested items include toys, books, headphones, pyjamas, fluffy socks, woolly hats, scarves, gloves, Christmas chocolates, selection boxes, and gift cards. Sensory items for children with disabilities are also warmly welcomed.

Donations will be accepted until Sunday, 30 November.

The main drop-off and sorting station is located at Rutherglen and Cambuslang Housing Association, East Main Street, Rutherglen (opposite Warnock’s Butchers). Gifts can be delivered Monday to Friday, 10am–2pm.

Additional drop-off points include:

  • Co-op, Rutherglen Main Street
  • Cambuslang BankHUB, 158 Main Street
  • Numark Pharmacy Drumsagard, 2A Hallside Court, Cambuslang

Brendan Rooney, executive director from Healthy n Happy Community Development Trust, said: “We’re delighted to partner with Rutherglen and Cambuslang Housing Association for this year’s Give a Gift of Joy campaign and thank them most sincerely for their support.

“This season will be a very difficult time of year for lots of families in Cambuslang and Rutherglen with the continuing cost of living crisis and high energy costs. So we would ask local residents, organisations and businesses to support this gift drive if they can - and help Christmas to be easier and better for some local families.”

Angela Spence, chief executive officer from Rutherglen and Cambuslang Housing Association, said: “The Association are proud to support Healthy n Happy with their 2025 Give a Gift of Joy campaign by providing our offices as a main collection point. We are keen to increase our support for our communities in Rutherglen and Cambuslang in this our 45th anniversary year.

“We know that Christmas is a joyful time but appreciate that the festive season can be difficult for families and this campaign is a helping hand to make things a little easier. The Association are contributing to the campaign and I would encourage our tenants and customers to help where you can but also, if you are struggling, please get in touch to benefit from the generous donations for our local kids.”
