Kevin Stewart, MSP for Aberdeen Central, visited the site where Sanctuary is delivering another 61 much-needed new homes.

The one, two and three-bedroom apartments will be managed by Sanctuary Scotland and available for social rent.

Set for completion in November 2022, the new homes will mark the end of Sanctuary’s development of Donside. Phase one of the project saw the regeneration of a former paper mill site to provider a further 267 new homes, 146 which were available for social rent and 121 for private sale.

The project is being built in partnership with the Scottish Government and Aberdeen City Council. The homes are viable thanks in part to a Scottish Government grant award of £4.7m.

Gillian Lavety, Sanctuary’s development director – Scotland, said: “The final phase of this programme will complete our work in Donside which is delivering quality new housing for local people.

“I’d like to thank the Scottish Government and Aberdeen City Council for their support of the project, and we’re delighted to see work on these new homes getting underway.”

Kevin Stewart MSP commented: “I’ve followed progress of this project throughout and am pleased to see building has now started on the final phase. These new homes will help sustain what is already a thriving community and it’s a pleasure to visit again.”

Councillor Sandra Macdonald, Aberdeen City Council’s Housing spokeswoman, added: “It is great to see the Donside development reaching completion and providing more new homes to add to Aberdeen’s social housing estate as well as offering affordable homes for purchase.

“A strong partnership approach to develop the old papermill site over many years has resulted in a strong community. We look forward to seeing Sanctuary’s newest properties becoming available for rent and will join them in welcoming new residents to the Donside community.”

Pat Cahill, director – Sanctuary Scotland, said: “What we’ve achieved in Donside Village makes me immensely proud and I look forward to welcoming even more tenants into their new homes when the project is completed.”
