Save the date for Scottish Housing Day 2023

Scottish Housing Day is back for the eighth year and will take place on Wednesday 13 September 2023.

The day is intended to raise awareness of challenges and successes in the housing sector and this year Scottish Housing Day will celebrate housing as a career.

Organisers have highlighted the publication of Housing to 2040 which they said makes it clear that there will be increasing expectations on landlords, letting agents, housing practitioners and developers to deliver even more value for tenants and customers over the coming years. Whether that is building new homes, meeting the net zero challenge, preventing homelessness or anything else, they said it is Scotland’s housing professionals that are at the centre of delivering the Scottish Government’s vision for housing.

So, for this year, Scottish Housing Day will celebrate the work of everyone who has made housing their career of choice and is helping deliver this vision. It wants to establish even more ways that people can join the profession and aims to encourage the Scottish Government and other relevant agencies to play their role in communicating the value of a career in housing to ensure that housing is recognised as a career of choice.

Everyone in the housing sector is urged to get involved and help celebrate this year’s Scottish Housing Day. Whether you are a private landlord, social landlord, tenant, developer, third sector organisation, advice agency, letting agent or an individual, organisers want you to celebrate careers in the housing sector by organising online events, Q&A sessions, fun days, sharing stories and blogs and through social media using the hashtag #ScottishHousingDay.

Callum Chomczuk, national director at CIH Scotland, said: “Scotland’s housing professionals are at the heart of our sector. Everything that makes this sector impactful is demonstrated with the commitment and passion of its housing practitioners. As such we want this year’s Scottish Housing Day to be about you and your career. We want you to get involved to raise awareness about different roles and routes into the sector, and we want to hear more what you and your organisation is doing to build an even more impactful profession for the next generation of tenants and practitioners.”

Andrea Finkel-Gates, CEO at Scotland’s Housing Network, added: “The Scottish housing sector is a dynamic, innovative, and exciting place to work, with a plethora of career opportunities within in. My first career was in further education; careers and employability are a fundamental part of FE, housing was never promoted or celebrated as a sector of choice – it simply wasn’t mentioned. That needs to change, now. We need to work together to let everyone know all the opportunities that housing offers and make it a go to place for school/college leavers and adult learners alike.”

Scottish Housing Day is delivered in partnership by the Association of Local Authority Chief Housing Officers (ALACHO), CIH Scotland, Homes for Scotland, Scotland’s Housing Network, Scottish Association of Landlords (SAL), Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA), the Scottish Government, TPAS Scotland, Under one Roof and Wheatley Group.
