SBHA leads tour of new ‘off-the-shelf’ homes in Kelso

Scottish Borders Housing Association proudly opened its doors to guests for an exclusive tour of its latest residential development in Kelso’s town centre.

On Thursday afternoon, members of the board of management, Scottish Borders Tenants Organisation, and partner organisations joined SBHA team members to explore the Association’s newest acquisition.

This new-build development of five contemporary homes are located centrally in Kelso. There are two ground-floor level access one-bedroom flats and one two-bedroom and two three-bedroom double upper apartments. Each home boasts a high quality of finish and are designed to maximise energy efficiency. The homes benefit from solar panels and the added convenience of allocated parking spaces.

SBHA’s director of development Emma Garry expressed her enthusiasm for the project amidst ongoing challenges within the construction landscape: “The need for affordable homes remains very high and so we are exploring different options to help us increase the supply of homes across the Borders.

“At Crawford Street, we agreed an ‘off-the-shelf’ purchase from a locally-based developer, Gilbert Developments. We are grateful to our funding partners, Scottish Government and Scottish Borders Council for continuing to support our work to bring new affordable homes to the Borders, and we look forward to welcoming customers to their new homes later this week. ”

SBHA is extending its role in the provision of quality affordable housing in the Scottish Borders, with projects currently on-site in Hawick and Newtown St Boswells, and planning permission secured for 70 new homes in Jedburgh. The Crawford Street development with its convenient town centre location has proved to be extremely popular, attracting 104 bids.

The unveiling of this latest venture underscores SBHA’s commitment to providing exceptional housing solutions to meet the evolving needs of the region’s communities.
