Scotland’s economic potential hampered by underperforming housing system, report set to warn

Professor Duncan Maclennan CBE
A major new report is to be launched next week that calls for bold action on housing to secure long-term economic growth and reduce inequality across Scotland.
Commissioned by the David Hume Institute and authored by global expert Professor Duncan Maclennan CBE, the in-depth report draws on interviews and roundtable discussions from organisations and individuals involved across the Scottish housing system.
Prosperity for Scotland Begins at Home argues that the current housing system is underperforming and holding back the nation’s economic potential. It sets out how Scotland’s housing policies must adapt to meet the demands of the 21st century. It presents evidence that inadequate housing supply, poor affordability and weak spatial planning are holding back productivity, increasing inequality and exacerbating regional disparities.
The launch event will be chaired by Eli Harij of the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations with reflections from key industry figures.
