Scottish Borders Council approves 49 new homes at the edge of Selkirk
M & J Ballantyne Ltd got approval from Scottish Borders Council for a 49-home scheme on the edge of Selkirk on 29 June.
The approval will see the delivery of new affordable homes on land, to the east of Linglie Road’s the Philipburn House Hotel, reports The Herald.
The scheme will deliver a combination of houses and flatted accommodation, associated parking, a green area and community garden.
The application had received six objections. The concerns included the possible effect on the site’s historical importance, such as its connection with the adjacent Philiphaugh battlefield.
Other objectors were concerned about the loss of an appealing open field for local residents and were worried that the plans indicate excessive development.
The council’s Planning and Building Standards Committee granted approval for the application, due to the Borders housing emergency and wider housing demand.
Viv Thomson, SNP councillor for Tweeddale West, said: “While I understand local concerns I do think this is a good development for the site.”
