Scottish Water plans residential redevelopment of Fairmilehead site
A residential development is planned on the site of Scottish Water’s Fairmilehead office in Edinburgh.
As part of a wider property review, the utility company decided to relocate its Edinburgh office to a more accessible city centre location and repurpose the Fairmilehead site for long-term use.
A new permission in principle application proposes the demolition of all existing buildings on the 2.45-hectare site to be replaced by a mix of private and affordable (35%) homes, including apartments, terraces and open space.
Scottish Water wrote: “The proposal for the site delivers a landscape-led development, bedding the development into its existing context, protecting and enhancing the existing assets of the site. A key feature of the development is the retention of the existing sewers and trees to the western edge of the site, forming a landscape buffer to Buckstone Terrace.
“The landscape corridor will provide a high-quality landscape and biodiversity feature, with green links crossing from Buckstone Terrace to the eastern edge to connect with the area of open space to the neighbouring residential development.”
Scottish Water is working with EMA Architects on the application.
