SHARE: Supporting and equipping future managers with ilm

The housing sector is well aware that it is heading into, if not already in, a period of natural change, where more senior posts are becoming vacant. Recruitment to these roles from within the sector also creates vacancies in other management positions which then need to be filled.

This means that preparing others to step into vacant manager roles is just as important as making sure we are developing managers as future leaders.

SHARE has prepared a number of routes to support learning about management; including our newly launched and comprehensive management development programme, further information will be released on this programme within the coming weeks.

However, for those taking the first steps on their management journey, we also have various ilm programmes that cover important topics and concepts for new managers, or those grappling with issues that perhaps the pandemic has exacerbated.

For those new to a management or supervisory role, or those considering seeking to step up, we have the ilm level 2 in Leadership and Team Skills. This 4-day course looks at the fundamental components of leading a happy, productive team: Roles & Responsibilities of the Team Leader; Planning & Monitoring Work; Understanding Change in the Workplace; and Workplace Communication. Led by SHARE associate Heather Ballantine, this qualification is an asset to any new manager and a fantastic building block for a career in management.

For those looking to consolidate their leadership and management toolkit, we have a brand new ilm level 3 award programme launching this year.

The ilm level 3 award in Managing People considers the key components that ensure you are developing as a thorough, attentive and encouraging leader, who is committed to developing both yourself and your team. This qualification comprises three sessions: Understanding Leadership; Understanding Performance Management and Understanding Discipline.

Considering these 3 key topics allows delegates to broaden their knowledge on the HR issues that are so integral to being and effective manager and getting the best from your team. Whether you are new to these responsibilities or would like to learn about the topics in light of our current systems of work, with colleagues from across the sector, this qualification will enrich your managerial skills and provide invaluable insights into areas that can so often go terribly wrong in the workplace.
