SHARE’s AGM – a celebration of learning

June not only saw sweltering heat but also SHARE’s AGM which celebrated the learning and development undertaken through SHARE.

Alan Ferguson, SHARE’s director, talked about the challenges and achievements over the year. Challenges arose because of staff illness and staff changes while achievements included a good financial performance with 1793 delegates attending a SHARE training course, 692 delegates attending SHARE events and 188 delegates attending the annual conference.

While focusing on the year ahead, Martha Hutcheson, SHARE chair, reported on progress in delivering the current Strategic Plan, launched at the 2017 AGM, and explained that it would be reviewed later this year with a new plan being developed for 2019/21. Martha highlighted SHARE are currently reviewing its membership and a focus group would be set up to examine this. In addition Martha talked about the office move to Saracen House and the expansion of staff at SHARE.

There were three nominations for the vacancies on SHARE’s Executive Committee. These were Alan Bell from Elderpark Housing Association, Joe Gorman from Clydesdale Housing Association, and John McLardie, the chair at Govanhill Housing Association and all were appointed to the Committee.

Three Committee members, Peter Howden, Les Patrick and Charlotte Levy had decided not to stand for the Committee again and Martha thanked them for their support and contribution to SHARE over the years.

A key part of SHARE’s AGM is the celebration of learning. This involved speakers talking about the Board members appraisal process and factoring; the presentation of Certificates to Lisa Scott for CIH Level 2, Jillian Bell for Foundation in Factoring, and to Helen Moore, Allan Scott and Morag Cameron for the chairs’ accredited programme.

Allan Scott from Milnbank Housing Association also received an award as SHARE’s Learner of the year.

In presenting the award, Martha said: “Allan’s submission was excellent, he was definitely someone who was very committed to his own development and he was a worthy winner of the 2018 Learner of the Year Award.”
