Sidey delivers £850,000 window and door upgrade programme for Thenue
Sidey has successfully completed an extensive £850,000 window and door replacement programme for Thenue Housing Association, delivering energy-efficient, secure, and modernised upgrades to mixed tenure residential properties across multiple communities in the East End of Glasgow.
The large-scale programme was delivered across numerous locations including Gallowgate, Kinnear Road, Dalmarnock Road, Landressy Street, Bogside Street, James Street, London Road and Kerr Street, enhancing homes for residents through a carefully coordinated, multi-site approach.
The comprehensive upgrade programme included the installation of a broad range of high-performance PVC window and door systems, tailored to suit the varied property types and resident requirements across the housing stock.
Installed products included tilt and turn and reversible PVC windows, alongside a selection of residential, composite, French and FD30 fire door systems. A range of finishes, including White, Rosewood/White and Beck Brown/White, were specified to complement the appearance of individual properties and streetscapes.
All newly installed window systems were designed to deliver enhanced thermal performance, incorporating market-leading U-values of 1.2 W/m²K and 0.9 W/m²K, while Secured by Design (SBD) certified products further strengthened home security across the programme.
The improvements have delivered measurable benefits for residents, including significantly improved energy efficiency, reduced heat loss and lower energy costs. Enhanced acoustic performance has also provided notable reductions in external noise levels, helping create quieter and more comfortable homes.
In addition to performance improvements, the programme has transformed the appearance of multiple streets and property types, replacing ageing timber and older PVCu systems with durable, low-maintenance solutions designed for long-term performance.
Delivering a programme of this scale presented several complexities, including coordinating installations across numerous streets, managing a wide range of PVC foil finishes, and replacing a combination of timber and legacy PVCu products. With mixed tenure occupancy across the sites, careful tenant liaison and scheduling were also essential to minimise disruption and maintain a positive resident experience.
Despite these challenges, Sidey successfully delivered the programme through strong logistics, detailed planning, and close collaboration with Thenue Housing Association.
As part of the contract, Sidey also provided community benefits, supporting local initiatives within the neighbourhoods served by the programme and reinforcing its commitment to delivering wider social value alongside housing improvements.
Thenue’s property services manager, John Watson, said: “We are delighted to be working with Sidey on delivering this project, our investment of £850,000 for brand-new windows and doors across our tenancies, highlights Thenue’s commitment to maintaining quality homes. These measures will ensure that our properties will remain energy efficient and secure for years to come, reducing costs and enhancing security for our tenants.”
Sidey’s joint managing director, Steve Hardy, said: “This programme demonstrates what can be achieved through strong partnership working and careful planning. By delivering high-performance, secure and energy-efficient upgrades across multiple sites, we have helped improve homes and enhance living conditions for residents across Thenue Housing Association communities.”
