Spring time for family fun in Castlemilk

Castlemilk youngsters learn how to spin plates

A Spring family day helped bring the community together in Castlemilk at an event organised by Ardenglen Housing Association’s hard-working community committee.

A huge turnout of families attended the occasion which was held in the Maureen Cope Community Hall with ever-popular dance group ‘Blaze’ and a magician to entertain the kids.

Also featured were examples of the work done by two groups which are part of Ardenglen’s inspiring ‘The Only Way is Up’ initiative known to the local community as ‘TOWiU’.

It is one of Ardenglen’s programmes designed to build people’s confidence, skills and resilience and has significant community support.

Stunning examples of the work carried out by sewing group ‘Sew Fabulous’ were offered for sale including cushions. Sew Fabulous provides the opportunity to local people to learn new skills through the manufacture of textile goods from reclaimed fabrics.

The occasion was also used to showcase the work done on reclaimed furniture giving them a new lease of life and undertaken by the ‘Mending Castlemilk’ group.

Ardenglen regeneration manager, Lesley Macphee, said: “The turnout at our Spring Family Fun Day was fantastic and hopefully everyone had a great time. Thank you also to the Ardenglen Community Committee whose hard work and expert planning made the day an occasion to remember.”
