Stirling Council chief executive steps down after less than a year

Caroline Sinclair

Caroline Sinclair has stepped down from her role as chief executive of Stirling Council, less than a year after taking up the post.

Ms Sinclair began her tenure on July 29, 2024 after being appointed to the role the month before.

The council confirmed that she has chosen to move on, with staff reportedly informed of her departure by email on Wednesday, June 11.

A council spokesperson stated: “Stirling Council can confirm that after much consideration, and with the mutual agreement of group leaders, Caroline Sinclair has decided to move on from the role of chief executive. Stirling Council wishes Caroline the best for the future.

“Executive director – place, Brian Roberts, has taken up the role of interim chief executive for the council, until a recruitment process is undertaken for a permanent appointment.”

Upon her appointment last year, Ms Sinclair had described the role as a “huge privilege,” expressing excitement about working in a region she called “bursting with innovation, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit.”

She succeeded Carol Beattie, who served nearly six years in the role. Before joining Stirling Council, Ms Sinclair held the position of chief officer at East Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership for six years.
